Boom!

Willys comes to Poland.

A trip during which we will travel from Georgia to Poland by oldie (military Jeep Willys MB from ‘43).
The route is not easy – 2500 km …
Georgia – Ukraine (Kiev, Lviv) – Poland (Opole, Krasiejów)

“Willys comes to Poland” is a collaborative project created by enthusiasts of antique military vehicles, Bunker Paintball Krasiejów, and the Heerro squad which organizes extreme travels.

The vehicle ended up in Georgia probably via the Lend-Lease program for the stock of the Russian army. We purchased this car in a good condition in Georgia. The car will come to Poland on its own wheels and then it will undergo a complete process of renovation with attention being paid to the smallest details. We will publish information, photos, and daily reports on a regular basis until the project is finally completed.

We are forming a tough squad whose members are not afraid of winter and will feel the climate of this challenge, just like us.

Prologue #

Report #1 – This is Volga

Day #3 – Tbilisi, Georgia

The beginning was nice. Willys started right away and surprised us, as it made our lives much easier this way.
We drove it to the next place of its reanimation.
The operation „Willys, come back to life” lasted 6 hours!
Unfortunately – this is not the end…

Our “grandpa” stayed in the car service/garage for the replacement of the next organ. Let’s hope that the water pump will be brought back to life tomorrow.
Keep your fingers crossed for us!

PS: It’s amazing that there are 26 mechanical services within such a small area. This is a real Disneyland for automotive fans.

Report #4 – Where is the blinker

Day #4 – Tbilisi, Gruzja

Willys is in a hospital on an IV consisting of antifreeze. Therefore, we decided to show you Tbilisi from a somewhat crazy side.
We met Georgiy who became our guide. We began our sightseeing session with learning about the local habits of pedestrian who walk on the street. To our astonishment, there aren’t any rules. What counts is one’s reflex and trust in drivers.

Obviously, the Georgian hospitality is amazing – 10 liters of wine, 3 bottles of chacha, you cannot be indifferent to that.
PS: Willys is back!!:) We feel a bit worse, though (no free space on the ferry…).

Matka Gruzji Relacja #5

Georgiy is 16 years old. A Georgian highlander. Currently an inhabitant of Tbilisi. Would like to become a journalist.
Speaks Russian but does not want to use it as a sign of protest.
He guides us around Tbilisi.

Day #5 – Caucasus, Georgia

The journey continues.
Today the destination is Caucasus.

There’s a lot of snow – a huge challenge for Willys and us, because it’s incredibly cold.
We will record everything – you will see the video tomorrow.

Day #6 – Caucasus, Georgia

We have reached Caucasus. 🙂
It turns out that it’s possible.
Without doors, without heating, while being sober :)!

Transit through the mountains of Caucasus:
A queue of tracks that was 15 km long
-25 degrees
The highest mountain pass: 2379 m a. s. l.

Day #7 – Kutaisi, Georgia

We have completed the first stage of our travel.
After a week, we came back to Kutaisi.
Today’s trip has been definitely the most demanding so far.
AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING.
Willys made things hot for us today. After 12 hours spent on the road, he had to be towed for the last 4 hours.

After this day, Piotr Szyszko was promoted to major:)!

Report #7 Storm

Next part of surprises…
As it turns out, there is nothing more uncertain in Georgia than a ferry:)
Especially when the “carrier” is a Ukrainian company.
We got stuck – apparently, such harsh winter hasn’t visited Georgia for 20 years.
We hope that we won’t have to buy a Christmas tree here.

In spite of many (not necessarily pleasant) surprises, Georgia and its inhabitants stole our hearts:)

Last episode of part 1.
We are in the midst of our adventure with Willys.
Ukraine turned out to be harder than we supposed. We left our foster car in Odessa.
We are coming back for “Wally” in January.
